Since the low carbohydrate diets have become very popular, snack food companies have flooded the market with low carb snacks. Be careful. Just because these snacks are low carb, doesn't mean they are healthy. Here is what to look for along with links to some healthy snack options.

Low Carb Snack Bars

There are lots of low carb snack bars out on the market, but not all of them provide much in the way of good nutrition. These low carb snack bars are better suited for maintenance phases of low carb diets because they often contain many calories, even with the alcohol sugars. Please note that some of the alcohol sugars in these low carb snack bars are difficult to digest and can cause gas.

Low Carb Cookie Mixes

Do you miss cookies? Here are some low carb cookie mixes that will fit your low carb lifestyle.

Low Carb Shakes

If you prefer a weight loss shake over a meal replacement bar, read the labels to get an idea of their nutritional content. If you are going low carb, make sure that the shakes are low on the glycemic index.

Bread

One of the biggest complaints from low carb dieters is "I miss eating bread." There are some low carb breads that have added soy flour to the mix. Remember that these breads are not wheat free, nor are they gluten free. In fact, many have added wheat gluten, so these breads won't work if you have Celiac Sprue or if you are allergic to wheat. Otherwise adding a low carb, high soy protein bread is a good way to add fiber into your diet.
